Sampson - Redlands Dog
Every now and then we get a picture of a dog that needs help and we move mountains to make sure that's exactly what happens.
Sampson is one of those dogs and we're excited to say that he's now in the custody of the SPCA after a long drive north from Miami, FL.
His story is one that we see too many times coming from the Redlands area of Miami. Looking for refuge, he found his way under a shed on a farm. The owner of the farm threatened to shoot him, but two amazing ladies, Isabel and Karen, weren't about to let that happen and rushed to save him.
They got him back to Isabel's house where he received a bath, a soft bed and a big bowl of food and probably for the first time in a very long time, he felt safe.
Isabel sent some photos to us and we immediately went into action and formed a plan to head south first thing this morning to get him. What we found when we got there broke our hearts - Sampson's spirit is broken and it was sad to see.
We rushed him back to our shelter and he got a full vet check from our dog intake department. Turns out he has quite a few things that need fixed...and he's heartworm positive. :(
We're raising money to help with his expenses which will include heartworm treatment, xrays, neuter surgery, bloodwork, eye removal and meds. Anything extra will be donated to the other needy dogs in our care.
It truly takes a village to save a dog and this time our village included two amazing women that were determined to find Sampson a safe place for the rest of his life. And right now that safe place is our executive director's office. We're pretty sure he's going to get the best night's sleep of his life tonight!
Sampson sends his love and we can't WAIT to see what his future holds!
