Hi everyone,
As I'm sure all of you who knew him by now know, on May 6th Sam Nichols unexpectedly passed away.
Sam was about as unique of an individual as you might expect. He was funny, cocky, and good-hearted. In high school Sam was a member of the cross country and track and field teams. He sang in Chorus, Shaker select, and Melodies of Christmas. He was one of my best friends, and you could often find us wandering about in someone's backyard or basement, playing made-up sports, drinking excessive amounts of soda (in Sam's case, Mt. Dew), playing video games (Super Smash Bros. and Pokemon were some of our favorites), or just hanging around. Sam had a job at a local supermarket and later Chipotle, the latter of which eventually morphed into a mild obsession with all of the free burritos he would eat and Mr. Pip he would drink.
I'm sad to say I lost contact with Sam over the years. It's my understanding that he was a physics major at Geneseo, with a passion for politics and an outlook on life that remains similar to mine. He was still involved in singing through an a capella group, and I had heard that he had many friends on campus. To quote a friend at Geneseo, "everyone here knows who straw-hat Sam is." Sam touched the lives of everyone around him, because he was about as genuine of an individual as one could be.
I'm not entirely sure how the process behind gofundmeworks. All I know is that I will see to it that every dime raised here makes its way back to the Nichols family. If there are any similar fundraising efforts being done please contact me.
I love you, Sam.
