This is Rebecca's story
At the early age of five years old when most kids are struggling to do somersault, hop, skip and tell simple stories. One little girl learned she was going to fight to breath for the rest of her life.
In 2002 my niece Rebecca was diagnosed with Cystic Fibros. Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that causes severe damage to the lungs and digestive system. An inherited condition, CF affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices. These secreted fluids are normally thin and slippery but in cystic fibrosis, a defective gene causes the secretions to become thick and sticky. These secretions plug up tubes, ducts and passageways in the lungs and pancreas. Creating symptoms that includes coughing up thick mucus, wheezing, shortness of breath, bronchitis, pneumonia, weight loss, failure to gain weight, fatigue, stomach pains, constipation, pancreatitis, liver disease, gallstones, and much more. There is no cure for cystic fibrosis.
Although there is no cure for CF, there are treatments available to ease the symptoms of CF depending on severity of disease.
Rebecca has been battling this incurable disease her whole life. Rebecca is now 19 years old and unfortunately do to an unexpected infection Rebecca has to relocate immediately to St. Louis for a lung transplant surgery. The urgency to relocate is a hardship and extremely emotional for Rebecca and her family. She will be leaving her dad, brother and fur sister behind.
The preparation for the lung transplant can be considerably lengthy. Donated funds will help Rebecca's family with travel, relocation, and medical expenses.
