Hello! My name is Edie, The Salsa FREAK!! Recently, my life has completely changed. My doctors told me that I will need to have both my knees REPLACED.

MY STORY: I am a professional Salsa dance instructor from Colorado. For over 22 years, I have been living my passion, teaching people from all over the world to dance Salsa. Back in June of 2016, my knees started giving out. After an MRI, I discovered that both of my knees are riddled with meniscal tears, stage 3 and 4 arthritis, cartilage loss, among a myriad of other ailments. The meniscal tear was what finally put me out of commission. I can no longer teach nor dance, and my ability to earn an income has withered down substantially. I am self-employed, so I do not have any “sick leave” nor “paid time off” so-to-speak. It’s just me. After extensive research, I've opted out of knee replacement surgery, as I found that this will lead to a myriad of further arthritic complications down the road. I have since opted for Stem Cell therapy to regenerate my failing knees. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not cover Stem Cell procedures, as apparently this technology is still in its trial stages. So I have to cover the entire cost by myself. There are two reasons why I am creating this GoFundMe fundraiser. 1. First, to help defray the cost of the procedure, as it will run well over $8,000 for me once everything is said and done. (pre and post shots, supplements, income loss, etc) 2. To encourage other dance instructors to swallow their pride and follow in my footsteps. It was very difficult for me to make this decision to start an online fundraiser. (I have a lot of pride). Dance instructors in general, do not make a lot of money, and using GoFundMe as a way to allow their students and colleagues to get together and help fund traumatic ailments like this is, I think, a great idea to get their dance instructors teaching again in a fraction of the time it takes for a normal knee replacement surgery. Teaching dance keeps us in shape, but at the same time, puts a tremendous amount of wear and tear on muscles and joints. When we teach, we are physically and mentally working just as hard, if not harder than our students. The Stem Cell regeneration facility that I am going through is an extremely reputable company based in Colorado called Regenexx. They are the founders of the Orthopedic Bone Marrow transplant procedure, and have been successfully doing clinical research, analysis, and procedures since 2005. They add about 2,000 cases a year at present. I am very fortunate to live here in Colorado, so I will not have to spend money travelling out-of-state for the procedure. I have been filming a documentary on Youtube about my experience so far, so that people can see what I went through before, during, and after the procedure. It is an ongoing Playlist, with uploads every other day. My procedure will take place at the beginning of September.
