Saiyeh's Transplant

Two years ago Saiyeh was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. This is a rare disorder where her bone marrow no longer produces red blood cells or platelets.
She began receiving frequent blood transfusions and platelets, however, this was a temporary option and the hospital began to have more difficulty finding blood matches as her body produced new antibodies.
Eighteen months ago Saiyeh was hospitalized and given a series of immunosuppressant infusions to try and "jump start" her system. These failed and along with an allergic reaction to the treatment, she spent ten days in intensive care.
Her last option for life was a bone marrow transplant, which was completed on June 21st. Due to numerous factors, Saiyeh was in a particularly complicated category and finding a suitable donor was difficult. They decided on a higher risk donor match and a relatively new transplant protocol.
Besides her 5 or so weeks in hospital, Saiyeh will require treatment for at least a year. The initial three to six months she will need in-home care and then transition to more independent living again.
Thankfully the majority of the major medical expenses are covered, as transplants often run over half a million dollars. However, there are other expenses that won't be covered. Simple things like preparing a hygienic room for her, special diet, transport to and from the hospital, supplementary medical expenses and her basic life needs. Also, help in covering some of her living expenses as Joyce has left her full-time job in order to provide daily care.
We expect these expenses to be spread out over the coming twelve months.
