Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities

Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities opened it’s doors on June 15, 2018, with a bit of curiosity as to how the space would be received by the community.  As it turns out, Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities has been hugely welcomed and appreciated by the community and all who have walked through the doors.  It is a space that brings healing in many forms.  The Blessing Pillars created by artist Linda Perrin have served as a powerful tool for healing, which guests experience whether or not they walk through the front door.  The Blessing Box on the porch, which was beautified by artist Roberta Sprague, has provided a new form of support for members of the community to both give and receive.  And then there are the smells, the beautiful art, the herbs, the therapies, the classes, and most importantly, THE CONNECTIONS that this space brings are profoundly wonderful.

Over the past four months the space has served as a sort of sacred sanctuary for many.  A sort of magic happens, where many seem to find exactly what they need to bring about a small or large shift in their lives.  It may be that they find a healing tincture, or a beautiful piece of pottery that they connect with.  Often it is simply being there, engaging in conversation, and connecting with exactly what or who they need at that moment.  There have been many times that a guest will visit the space, be engaging in conversation about a health issue and within minutes, a person or practitioner from the community, who is exactly who they need to connect with, will walk through the door.  It has been one of the most beautiful and powerful things I have experienced and I have been incredibly grateful to have been able to create and hold space for this all.

I have watched and learned what is truly needed in the community.  It is healing.  It is connection.  And taking what I have learned over the past four months, I have decided that Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities will be evolving into a space that leans a bit more towards wellness and healing.

In order to do this, I am seeking help and support from the community by re-circulating the GoFund campaign that I started this past Spring, which helped me to open the doors.  While the space has been hugely successful, it has not made a huge financial profit.  And that’s ok. I don’t think that is what the space is there for.  The business itself has made enough money to keep it going and that is what I have decided to do.  I feel that success is not always measured in terms of money.

Some may wonder why I don't take out a bank loan as other small businesses might.  I feel that Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities is a community space  which has been built by the community.  Each contribution from the community, even if it's a $5 donation, makes each contributor a part of the space.

There are more ways to contribute to the space outside of this campaign. You can:

-come in and make a purchase
-make a purchase online at sagemoonapothecary.net
-attend one of our classes and workshops
-donate directly in the shop, where you can specify exactly where your donation is going (ie scholarship fund, space upgrades, blessing box replenishment, etc.)

My plans for this coming year, beginning in January, are to expand the therapy offerings.  We currently have seven practitioners offering modalities such as massage, Reiki, Ayurveda, Gestalt, Midwifery, Energy Healing, and Herbal Medicine.  I have a waiting list of practitioners interested in joining Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities and current practitioners wanting to offer more of their work.  Expanding the space to include two therapy rooms, will allow more practitioners to offer greater availability and more community members to take advantage of incredible healing.  This evolution also includes bringing the working apothecary space out into the main room, which will allow for guests to experience the making of herbal creations, and provide a larger teaching space where I can honor the many requests to share more about herbal medicine education and experience.  I would also like to begin a scholarship fund which will provide some financial support for wellness care to those who seek it.

The space will continue to have a beautiful art retail space, and will bring in more offerings from other talented herbalists and local artisans.  The space will continue to have resting places in the form of comfortable chairs and warm complimentary tea.

Dontions will go towards:
-Creating a second therapy room (paint, flooring, sink, etc.)
-Upgrading the bathroom area to include washer and dryer for practitioners use
-Expanding offerings to include medicinal bulk herbs, frequently requested from the community.
-Beginning a scholarship fund, which will provide financial support for members of the community seeking wellness care
-Expanding educational opportunities

Sage Moon Apothecary & Curiosities is a space like no other.  It is truly a space of magic and healing - anyone that has walked through the front doors feels it.  It is my hope that we can continue to evolve and to serve our communities from this amazing small business that is truly helping to change the world, one individual at a time.  I am filled with so much gratitude to be able to continue with what I have set out to do.

Thank you for all forms of your contributions, which will help to us continue to serve.

So much gratitude,

Jennifer
