Safe Haven for Lava Evacuees
Donation protected
Aloha. My name is Mailani Souza and I am a land owner in Puna, just outside of the area affected by the active lava flow. I was born and raised on the Big Island and my heart has always been in the Puna district. I feel so strongly driven to support the people who have endured such tragic loss with the current lava situation. My vision is to create a safe haven where I can take in three or four families in need on my acre of land. Currently, the land has been cleared and two temporary living structures have been moved to the property. We have a community kitchen space and a port a potty at this time (and a trampoline and skate ramp for the kids ) What we really need is infrastructure - water catchment, solar power, toilets, ground cover, and building supplies for one or two more structures. Any small amount is greatly appreciated as well as any skill or labor. As of today, there will be 10 people (two evacuated families and 7 kids) staying on the land and we would love to make it as comfortable as possible in a timely manner. In the midst of all of this tragedy we must hold together strong and be the loving community that this Island needs. Mahalo for your support.
