2 years ago my dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Since then he has been fighting for his life. After three rounds of very intense Chemo he had to have surgery. May 3rd 2018 he underwent an 8 hour surgery that removed his bladder,prostate, and surrounding lymphnodes in order to remove the cancer and try to prevent it from spreading. He came through the surgery well and enjoyed 6 months of healing and enjoying his 6 of his 7 grandkids. In December /January he became ill with constant intestinal blockages that landed him in and out of the hospital for months. He lost a lot of weight and any hope he would ever get better.
2 months ago he underwent a surgery which removed part of his intestines and it showed that his cancer had returned. After going back to Moffitt he was told to gain weight so we could try treatment again. A month later he couldn't even eat without bloating and the only option was a colostomy. During that surgery, they were going to remove as much of the cancer as they could and give him a colostomy bag...something he never wanted,. I sat and waited for what they said would be a 6 hour surgery.....in ended in under 2 hours. Then i got a call .. His cancer had spread to a large portion of his intestines and his colon.
Its was stage 4. He was terminal.....5 to 6 months to live. That was a month ago. We started to make small goals. Get to rehab where he could get stronger to spend time with me and his grandkids. He finally after 3 weeks got to rehab a week ago.
For some reason his insurance is done paying for rehab and will no longer pay for care.
This is where we need help. My dad cant be alone and as many of you know i already raise my brothers three kids on top of my own three so him coming here isnt an option. His insurance doesnt cover long term care so we are looking into an assisted living facility which is a lot of money and his pension wont be able to cover it all. Im asking his friends and family to donate for his care.
He is an amazing father and grandfather and I just want him comfortable for the several months he has left. We are asking for help for his living expenses. It can be up to 5 or 6 grand a month for an assisted living and he just doesnt have that. Anything you can give to help is amazing and if you can't give any money we do accept prayers. Prayers he gets to spend a little extra time with me. And also with these little grandkids who just want their grandpa back playing with them one more time.
Any money not used for him I would like to donate to cancer research. I never believed my big strong daddy would be over come with this disease and it kills me everyday. I never want anyone to EVER experience this.
