Sacramento Republic Power Soccer Division

Tax deductible

A sport invented in the 1970's, to become international by 2006 with over 240 teams, the Sac Valley Flames came into being in 2014 after a clinic introduced local power wheelchair users to the transformational game of Power Soccer.
In the past, while neighborhood kids were picking up baseball bats and gloves to play T-ball or kicking a soccer ball with AYSO teammates, our athletes were learning to drive power chairs. While other kids traveled to tournaments for baseball, basketball, football and other sports, our athletes traveled for doctors' appointments, therapy and surgeries. While young adults were playing sports and looking up to professional athletes, our players were in chairs looking up, often feeling invisible.
Power Soccer transforms a life on the sidelines into one of learning teamwork, the benefits of hard work and persistence, how to handle defeat, learn from mistakes and work to improve. It offers camaraderie, a family of emotional support, a sense of belonging and the joy of competing.
Our team consists of players with birth anomalies that limit the ability to walk, and with degenerative diseases or spinal cord injuries who lose the
ability to walk. The only qualifiers are for players to be over 5 years of age and use a power chair for mobility.
