Saudra's Guatemala service trip
Donation protected
Hi my name is Saudra Alvarez and I'm from Tucson, AZ. I am married and have 3 boys. I work full time at the Pima County Library and currently attend Pima Community College part time. I will then transfer to the University of Arizona to pursue my Master of Arts in Library and Information Science degree. I have worked for the library for over 15 years, and I have a passion in helping others through services offered at the library.
Any donation is appreciated as this will help me attend this educational, teacher training, volunteer service trip. I will be traveling with Librarians Without Borders particpants to Guatemala. This service trip is at Miguel Angel Asturias Academy in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala from April 22-May 2, 2016.
We will be working directly with the academy's staff, and students. Teaching them the importance of literacy, and how libraries contribute in ones education. We will be cataloguing, processing, and organizing material at the library, and as a trip participant I'll have the opportunity to engage with students and teachers through literacy and outreach programs offered during this 2016 service trip.
Going to Guatemala will be great opportunity and learning experience. Both my parents were born in Guatemala, and I'll have the opportunity to learn more about my culture, while giving back to many children in this country. This will be a fullfilling and priceless experience. I'll also have an opportunity to meet some of my family for the first time and visit my half-brother, he's 12 years old.
I will use the funds to pay for the program fees that include, lodging, transportation, food and airfare.
