Claire Andrews Heart Surgery

Donation protected
Hey everyone.

My best friends Aaron & Cheryl Andrews just gave birth to their second beautiful baby girl, Claire.

Like most parents, they have been thrilled about the anticipated arrival to the latest addition to their family. Unfortunately, as many parents greatest fear, Claire didn't arrive perfectly healthy. Just a couple of months before the delivery, the doctors caught a rare heart condition during a routine check up on the ultrasound. The heart condition is known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The easiest way to describe this condition is that her heart didn't develop properly, and she won't be able to get the appropriate amount of blood pumped to her body without having a very serious heart surgery

10 years ago, there wasn't even a hospital in Canada that was properly equipped or staffed to attend to this terrible condition and Canadians were forced to fly to America.

Luckily there is now a hospital in Toronto that's able to properly handle these cases and Cheryl was able to fly to Toronto weeks before her delivery to be in the best hands possible. Aaron just started a brand new job in Septemeber, but was forced to take an extended leave from work to be there for his family.

The down side to all of this, along with the extreme stress of having an unhealthy new born, is that this isn't a quick fix. This is a very serious heart condition and they could be stuck in Toronto for up to 6 months and MCP doesn't cover the cost of this! Aaron and Cheryl have to pay for the costs upfront and then MCP will reimburse them up to 50% of the costs after the fact.

Along with having to deal with this emotional roller coaster, Aaron & Cheryl had to pay for their flights up. They have to pay for their accommodations in Toronto. Pay for their meals for several months and then they will have to pay for their flights back home again before getting a reimbursement.

But in typical Aaron & Cheryl fashion, they haven't lead on about this whole crisis to many people. They are some of the most modest, humble, hard working and genuine people you could ever meet.

Since high school they have strived to do everything right. For years Aaron had to resort to working off the island, forcing him to leave Cheryl time and time again to make an honest living and to set themselves up for parenthood, while Cheryl had to look after the fort all on her own. A story that a lot of Newfoundlanders can relate to.

Luckily most of us can't relate to the turmoil they must be going through right now, but can most certainly understand what a few dollars and loving words their way would mean to them right now at this time.

My whole life I've seen Aaron and Cheryl give without expecting anything in return, and they don't expect anything in return now. I had to start this page myself for them. But if a couple was ever deserving of a few dollars, and some loving and encouraging words, it's the 2 of them.

Please feel free to donate any amount to go towards their cause in this time of need during the Christmas season. All donations add up and NO donation is too small.

Thank you!
