Ryan Elden Athlete Travel Fund

$5,170 of $8,000 goal

Raised by 47 people in 4 months

My name is Ryan Elden. I train and compete in  biathlon, (a combination of cross country skiing and target shooting). I am from Quesnel, BC, and moved to Whistler to train full time Whistler Nordic Development Centre immediately after graduating high school in June 2017.

I have won medals at the National level and recently qualified for the Canadian National Junior Team to compete at several competitions in Czech Republic and Slovenia. I also earned a position on the Canadian Youth Team to represent Canada at the Youth World Championships in Estonia later this winter. My long term goals are to be selevted to the Canadian National Biathlon Team and compete at the World Cup level and Olympics.

I work part time to help support my dreams, but am unable to fully fund myself because it costs approximately $30,000/year for training, travelling, and living expenses. Your donations go a long way in supporting me in pursuit of my dreams and goals to represent Canada on the world stage. Thank you.

That concludes my international racing for this season, after 6 weeks in Europe of constant learning I am back in Canada. This experience has been amazing and I have learned so much. Starting with two top 40's in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, we traveled to Pokljuka, Slovenia. Racing there was challenging as we got a lot of fresh snow. I raced in the relay and the pursuit. Both of which were great learning experiences and had a different feel of intensity compared to the last few international races. Finishing up in Pokljuka we drove to France where we put in some quality training for two weeks. At the end of those two weeks we flew up to Otepaa, Estonia for the Junior World Championships. The competition there was difficult with a very tight field and a tough course. It was amazing racing the best guys in the world and seeing how much work I need to do before I am at there level. I can't wait to get back to training extra hard for next winter and begin closing the gap between me and the best of the best. Thank you everyone for your continued support. This experience, I feel, will be instrumental in my development as an athlete, and as a person. I hope you will all continue to follow my endeavors and spread the word. The more people with me on this journey, the better!

Holy Moly! Today I am starting in my first Junior World Championships! After a solid 2 weeks of training in Les Plan d'Hotonnes in France, I am feeling more ready than ever. Feeling a bit nervous was to be expected, but I underestimated the population of butterflies in my stomach it seems.

I start at about 2:00pm here, which is about 4:00am back in BC. If you are as excited about this as I am you can follow live results at www.biathlonresults.com. You can find me under the Youth/Junior Tab as a Youth Man.

Thank you Everyone, once again for your support. This experience has been amazing so far and none of it would be possible without all of you.

Phew! After an amazing two weeks of racing I've ended up back in Munich, Germany where our journey began. My first international tour was a success, I would say. Not all my races were fantastic but I am happy with my performance. With two top 40 placings in Nové Mesto, and qualifying for the pursuit in Pokljuka. Now it is off to France for a bit of training before the Youth World Championships in Otepää, Estonia.

You can see all the Canadian Junior teams results at www.biathlonworld.com under the data centre tab.

Thank you all for your continued support. It helps push me ever closer to my dreams and I wouldn't be where I am today without all of you.

Today we went for our first ski at the beautiful Nova Mesto venue in Czech Republic. The course looks rough but fun, so I can't wait to get out and race! My first international race is coming up fast, scheduled for the 26th. I can't begin to explain how excited I am, I've been dreaming of this life for so long it's crazy to think it's actually happening. Thank you all for your crazy amount of support, it means so much to me.
