Ryan and Kristyana motorcycle crash

Donation protected
This campaign is to raise funds for Ryan Freeman and Kristyana Robinson.

On Saturday evening, July 13th, we were headed back from Nashville Indiana on two Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Ryan and Kristyana leading the way on his bike, with my wife and I following on mine. We were all wearing helmets. We were sober. We were traveling at a safe speed. We did everything right...We were headed North on 135 just south of Morgantown at 10:24pm, when a fully grown doe leapt into our lane from the adjacent woods. She came out of nowhere, running at full speed. Ryan never had a chance, and they impacted the deer head on at 55mph. The deer was killed instantly, and the impact sent Ryan, Kristyana and the bike sliding, flipping and rolling  down 135.  The debris field from the bike stretched more than 100 feet.

Both were badly injured and were transported to IU Bloomington Hospital via ambulance. Ryan suffered a badly broken elbow, requiring surgery. His right leg was broken. His collar bone was badly bruised. He has significant road rash on his right arm, left shoulder and back. His ear was badly lacerated. He also damaged his teeth. Kristyana was even worse. She had a broken femur in her right leg, requiring surgery. She broke every toe on her left foot. During the crash, she bit through her lower lip and has several stitches. Her feet and hands suffered significant road rash. Her knee is fractured. They should both have died.

Ryan had successful surgery to repair his left elbow first thing Sunday morning. He was able to be released from the hospital on Monday, and is recovering at his parent's house, awaiting followup appointments. He's in a lot of pain, but he's in great spirits!

Kristyana had surgery to repair her femur Sunday afternoon. She is still at IU Bloomington fighting to make progress. She has injuries to both legs making rehab difficult. The doctors are struggling to control her oxygen levels and heart rate. They discovered additional injuries just today. All of these issues must be resolved before she can even 'graduate' to in-patient rehab. She won't be going home yet. On the bright side...she stood today! She's fighting hard and is keeping her chin up.

So....I'll cut to the chase. They are going to need a lot of help. Neither can work. Ryan is without health insurance, and his motorcycle insurance is already balking at medical bills (since they hit a deer...not a car!). Ambulance rides are $20,000 a pop we are told. Both have already had surgeries, along with stays in the E.R. and Orthopedic departments.

By the Grace of God and the incredible instincts with which Ryan maneuvered, my wife and I were able to avoid disaster.  Therefore, we are honored to make the first contribution.  I am hoping their family and friends from Launch Pad Music, Crossroads Church, the motorcycle community, Big Daddy Caddy, the musicians we all know, and many others will join us. These are incredible people who do some awesome work with young people. Please share this everywhere and give what you can.

Sincerely,

T.J. and Jessica Hampton
