Hi everyone!
This coming February, my colleagues and I will be traveling to Kigali and Butare in Rwanda to help take care of women who suffer from:
1) Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP): An uncomfortable bulge in the vagina where the internal organs (vagina, uterus, rectum, bladder) are "falling out."
2) Urinary Incontinence (UI): UI is uncontrollable loss of urine.
3) Fistula: Abnormal connections between the vagina, bladder, and rectrum that may happen during child birth.
Rwanda has limited resources to take care of these patients.
Hospitals are in dire need of basic surgical supplies like sutures, sterile gloves, gowns, masks, and instruments.
