Help Fund My Boston Court Concert!
(Click to watch the preview video for my upcoming concert)
It's really happening! An LA concert of my music at Boston Court Performing Arts Center in Pasadena, Friday November 3, 2017, with world class musicians, talented students, and a program that also includes a masterwork by veteran LA composer William Kraft. I've been planning this for over a year and it finally came together. And I could use your help!
The virtuoso sextet Brightwork newmusic is one of the hottest contemporary ensembles in LA, recently showcased at the Hear Now Festival. They perform my Subterranean Dance and a masterpiece by Kraft called Kaleidoscope.
The big premiere on the program will be my new Horn Trio, be played by Bay Area-based Sierra Ensemble. We met in New York and they commissioned the work. We were awarded a residency in New Hampshire where we worked on it for a week together! They'll be fresh from its first performance in San Francisco.
Also, two very talented violinists from the LA Youth Orchestra—Alisa Luera and Clara Ross—will make two violins sound like an orchestra of many colors in my Six Violin Duos (After Bartok).
My Simple ASK
Some of you follow my music, some of you watch me conduct the LA Youth Orchestra concerts, others of you sing along at my preconcert lectures. If you share my passion for music, please consider helping me breathe fire and life into all those tiny notes I sweat over, first on paper, then computer. My $5,000 goal will offset most of the expenses. All donors will receive a personal thank you and one track digital download. Donations $250 and above will include a signed first page of my new Horn Trio. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and to read about the concert.
I have to simply say thank you. We had a special musical evening at Boston Court with a full enthusiastic crowd hearing players at the top of their game. I just had the best time being the conduit between the audience and the musicians.
I believe my two students blew everyone away with their playing of my violin duos. They really captured the spirit of my "Hungarian hoedown." Sierra Ensemble did a beautiful job with my Horn trio and several told me afterward they were deeply moved with its slow movement. Brightwork was scintillating, sizzling, and expressive with Bill Kraft's Kaleidoscope and my Subterranean Dance. They are just some of the best players around.
It was a huge honor to have Bill Kraft present at the concert. At a vital age 95, he is still composing and going strong. A true inspiration.
This concert was a big moment for me—lots of music, lots of musicians, lots of planning, lots of marketing— and it's hard to convey how much your support financially and psychologically inspired me to make this happen. Even on a Friday evening with rush hour traffic in Pasadena :)
I'll send some concert video clips when they are available.
