Run 4 Ruth

One in three women and one in four men, find themselves in a situation of domestic violence in their lifetime. 20,000 phone calls are made daily to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Intimate partner violence makes up 15% of all violent crime in this country. One in fifteen children, are witness to domestic violence each year. And these are just the numbers we know. These numbers do not take into account the many who live in fear of revealing their situation.

This issue has epidemic proportions, yet it is something that most people choose to avoid discussion of. We cannot bear to ignore this. We wish to give a louder voice to something much bigger than us as individuals. We wish to raise awareness of an organization that provides information as well as great resources, to those who find themselves in the difficult situation of domestic violence. We intend to empower those who feel powerless, and to let them know that they are not alone. That this issue does not discriminate by social standing or by ethnicity. Your age, sexual preference, financial well-being, or upbringing, do not exclude you from finding yourself in this situation. Domestic violence can cause the decline of physical and emotional health, the loss of jobs, sobriety, sanity, and sometimes even a person’s life. There is no “typical abused person”. No two situations are exactly the same, but we are also not as different as we might think we are.

Through corporate and local business sponsorships, people donations, and event proceeds; we intend to take all monies collected, and donate to House of Ruth. This organization provides information and assistance to those looking to change their lives. They aid in helping people find hope. They provide financial assistance, housing, and therapy. They put people on the path to finding their own personal freedom, peace and even happiness. If we are able to help just one person find this peace through our efforts, we have done what we set out to do.

From this time, until the time of the main event, Run for Ruth in October of 2017, we will be working diligently to raise funds for this organization. This is fully non-profit effort, fueled only by the time invested of those committed to the success of it. The main event will be a volunteer run, in dedication of those still suffering.
