Run to Pegasus / Veterans Charity

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and to honour the men who spearheaded the entire invasion, The Veterans Charity are repeating a remarkable and highly successful event which I first ran in in 2009.
On 4th June 2019, a group of 193 sponsored runners will set off from the site of Tarrant Rushton Airfield in Dorset and make their way into the New Forest and down to Portsmouth, covering 62 miles in under 24 hours.
On 5th June, once in Portsmouth, the group will then board a Brittany Ferry to Normandy, before making their way along the Caen Canal towpath to arrive on Pegasus Bridge at precisely 0016hrs 6th June, 75 years to the minute since men of the 2nd battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry began their now legendary assault to seize the two bridges and secure a vital road inland for the troops landing on the beaches.
On 6th June 2019, the entire group will make their way to the site of another bridge, 10 miles away where The Veterans Charity will unveil a plaque dedicated to the men of 22 Platoon who landed there in no.4 glider which went off course.
All money raised will go to The Veterans Charity.
The Veterans Charity was founded in March 2008 to support UK Veterans of all generations.
They provide fast, direct support to Veterans facing hardship and distress.
They supply immediate needs support for essential items including food shopping, clothing, household goods like kitchenware and single appliances as well as single items of furniture and even mobile phones to aid vital communication.
They proudly receive referrals from many other organisations and military charities and work together to ensure our Veterans get the longer term support they need and deserve.
Since 2011, they have provided essential items to well over 1300 Veterans and given guidance and advice to many more.
