This is the note from my father:
"Tuesday night my career as a teacher was ended when a diagnosis of a red blood cell count of 5.2 (13-17 is the norm) and a white blood cell count of 1 (10 and above is the norm) came back from the lab at Kaiser Vacaville. I was admitted to the hospital that night and then moved to the Roseville Kasier Cancer Center (one of three in NorCal – the other two are in Santa Clara and Oakland). I have what is called BPDCN a very aggressive and rare form of leukemia that has attacked my glands and bone marrow. This disease attacks only 70 people per year in the U.S. generally between the ages of 60 – 70 with the average age being 63 and mostly males. Bingo – I hit all target marks. My regiment of chemo started on Saturday, April 29th (yes our first granddaughter’s 1st birthday and she was born in the same hospital we are currently in) and will run for six days. We (Patty and I) will be in the hospital for one month. The remission rate is 30-35% after the 1st round. If we are not successful, a different batch of witches brew will be used for a 2nd round. If remission is attained the eventual goal will be a trip to Stanford for a bone marrow transplant."
Your donation will help with outside medical/other expensis while my father is going through treatment at Standford University.
My father is not one to ask for help/nor wanted to, but right now WE as a family have made the decision to ask for help from our friends and loved ones.
My father also wants to make this clear: Any funds not used for his treatment and procedure will be donated to a charity for the BPDCN Leukemia research and treamtment foundation.
