Ruby's Recovery

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family,

My name is Amanda Carlson. I have the amazing opportunity to be a dog parent, alongside the love of my life Bob Stark, to our beautiful red-nosed pit rescue, Ruby.  She was rescued off the streets of North Philly back in February by some dear friends of ours and when Bob and I had the chance to meet her, we just couldn't say no to taking her into our family. We have the opportunity to live and grow with our girl, and cannot imagine doing everything we can to save her and her friendly, adventurous spirit. It is really hard for us to ask for money, but the financial burden of our situation has humbled us to rely on the support from our peeps.

Some of you know and some may not, but our pup, Ruby, was hit by a car the other night. I was getting her out of the backseat to come inside and before I was even able to grab her leash, she spotted a cat, dashed around the corner and ran into the street. She has been doing so well with getting in and out of the car, but it seems like this time her doggie instincts got the best of her and I wasn't able to catch her in the moment. I have been asking myself a lot, "Why didn't I grab the leash?" and , "OMG, I killed my dog." I finally got some sleep and have a better, more optimistic head on my shoulders.

Ruby is not out of the woods, but is hanging in there. She has a broken pelvis, scratches and scrapes everywhere, and a huge head wound. She has bruised lungs which is making it hard for her to breathe. On top of that, she needed a CT scan in order to see how far the head wound goes and in order to develop a more accurate prognosis for her injuries.

At this point, we know that she has a fractured cheek bone, a fracture in her scull, and another small fracture  in her spine in her neck. Fortunately, she does not need surgery on any of those injuries. So she is nuerologically intact. This is evidenced by the other day when we went to visit her, she recognized us right away and is seeking attention from the staff there like her cute self always has. She's such a ham :)

Unfortunately, from what it sounded to me like what the vet said about her pelvis, she has a bajillion fractures, which will need surgery.

With all this said, please keep Ruby in your prayers.  Any amount of money raised with help us tremendously. If you yourself can't give financially,  there are still many ways to support. Please repost this page, send us your thoughts and prayers, or even a hug if you see us will be welcomed. She is such a good dog and doesn't deserve any of this.

Thank you with much MUCH love,

Amanda & Bob
