Ruairí's 'Swim to Recovery' Challenge
Donation protected
Hi
My name is Ruairi Aspell. I am a 19 year old full-time student. While on holidays in Budapest recently, I suffered a brain hemorrhage. Luckily I was in the company of my friend who is a member of the Order of Malta. He recognised the gravity of the situation and took swift action. The neurosurgical hospital in Hungary was of an excellent standard where I had an operation to stop the bleeding and spent almost three weeks recovering from surgery. My rehabilitation continues and I’m focused on making a 100% recovery whilst I put my studies on hold for this year.
As a result of my experience, I would like to raise money for charity which I plan to divide between the hospital in Hungary where I was treated, the local Order of Malta (Athlone area) and Stroke Clinical Trial Network Ireland which specialises in research into the treatment and prevention of stroke.
As part of my fundraising campaign, I’m organising an endurance swim in Athlone Regional Sports Centre. The is a 10,000 meter swim, considered the marathon of swimming. I hope to complete this challenge along with my fellow swimmers on February 3rd in the sports centre.
Any donations to these worthy causes would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Ruairí Aspell
