Our First RSPCA Rehoming Centre

£2,150 of £3,000 goal

Raised by 83 people in 2 months
The RSPCA Manchester & Salford Branch  is a small charity that has never had it's own animal centre.  Up until now the branch has used private boarding and foster carers to house the animals that have been admitted for rehabilitation and rehoming. In 2019 we are opening a small centre in a rented warehouse where we will be able to care for up to 24 cats, 32 rabbits and 8 small animals, which means we will no longer need to rent space for our animals from private businesses (we will still be using our brilliant foster carers.) For the first time ever we will be able to provide daily care to animals ourselves, have access to them at all times and be able to admit newly rescued animals 7 days a week.

We have been lucky enough to have received a legacy which will fund the required building work and we are reusing equipment and supplies that we already have as much as possible. But there is still a lot that we need to purchase upfront. We are seeking donations to help us buy vital equipment we need to establish our new centre and make sure that the animals have as comfortable and enriching a stay with us as possible before finding their forever home.

Please watch our video to see a few of the animals we have helped so far in 2019.

Here are examples of where the money will be spent:

£2.50 - a water bottle for a rat or guinea pig.
£3.00 - a litter tray for a cat or rabbit
£5.00 - a hay rack for a rabbit
£10.00 - a plastic tunnel for a rabbit
£20.00 - a scratching post for a cat
£25.00 - a large bottle of animal safe disinfectant
As you can imagine we will need quite a lot of all the above!

£40.00 - a roll of "vet bed" to use as bedding for cats
£70.00 - housing for a guinea pig
£125.00 - a "feline fort" shelter for a cat in isolation
£150.00 - a lockable fridge to store medication
£400.00 - a large stainless steel sink

All contributions are gratefully received and we plan to create a “wall of fame” with the names of all contributors in a frame on the wall to show our appreciation to everyone who has helped set up the centre.

The Manchester & Salford Branch of the RSPCA  is a separate charity from the National RSPCA and has been running since 1963. The charity is dedicated to improving the lives of animals rescued by the National RSPCA inspectorate, but being financially independent means we are entirely reliant upon local support to help fund this vital work. Each year we find new homes for between 400 and 500 cats, rabbits, small animals and reptiles. In 2018 we admitted the highest number of RSPCA inspectorate rescued animals in the North region and with your help we will be able to admit many more in the future.

The building work is almost finished so here is a fresh update on the centre from Saturday morning.
In true Grand Designs style, the build has cost us more than anticipated (although we're still on schedule time-wise.) Whilst we have room for the animals, we are still falling short when it comes to actual STUFF they need - bowls, litter trays, blankets, beds, toys and enrichment. We also don't yet have any equipment to clean up after them, and we are anticipating a lot of mess and a lot of laundry!
Thanks so much for your contribution - I think this video makes it very clear where your money is being spent. We'd like to ask you to extend your generousity even further and help us spread the word, or attend one of our fundraising events over the next couple of months. That would be hugely appreciated.

We've reduced the total we are looking to raise online because we've received some generous offline donations. All hugely appreciated!
Building work is continuing at the new centre and we can't wait to start moving in.
Since we launched the campaign the lovely Colin, who features in our video, has gone up for adoption and been reserved. He should be in his new home very soon.
Please do consider donating if you haven't already, you will be contributing to a place which will help so many rescued animals every single day.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
