Roshni's Cooking & English Training

This is Roshni, she is 18 years old and lives in Varanasi, India.


Roshni was forced to leave school at age 14 due to money constraints on her family.
She’s the eldest of 4 siblings, her father works 12 hours a day in construction, making $3.50 - $4 per day in a job that is often inconsistent and unreliable.

Until recently Roshni worked for $1 per day, 7 days a week, for 8-10 hours everyday with no breaks or day off.
Until 2-3 months ago, after turning 18 her employer decided to give her a raise.

Her $30 per month became $60 – but her hours were extended to 13-14 per day.
The minimum wage in India is $70 per month.

3 weeks ago, exhausted and overworked, Roshni became sick and was too ill to come into work.

She called her employer and asked for 1 day off, to which they replied “If you can’t make it to work then you’re fired." - and she was.

Now my friends here at @TerracottaCafe have decided to train Roshni and teach her English over the next 6 months in their new health food café.

As they've opened just 3 weeks ago money is tight, so I thought I could help them out with a bit of crowd funding.

 We need:

6 Months Wages X $80 = $480

New Work Clothing = $50

Training Ingredients/Materials = $50

Stationary/Books/English Material = $20

 Total: $600
