Hey y'all! I'm Lynell, an international educator, and I recently returned home to the Greater New Orleans area after several years of adventures around the world. I originally created this campaign to help me realize a dream to become a certified children's yoga teacher! Because of so many incredible starlets, I raised enough money to go to Chicago for 2 weeks and complete a 95 hour children's yoga teacher training with Mission Propelle!! I am in a huge transition in both space and time right now, and the love and support that I am feeling and experiencing are touching the depths of my being, y'all!
A little background story...
I began working as an elementary school teacher’s assistant and enrichment teacher at a local New Orleans charter school. The following year I moved to China to teach a preschool leadership program based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. It was absolutely one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had, in part because my life was drastically changed when I was introduced to the moving meditation called yoga. I became so enthralled by the practice that I dedicated myself to learning as much as possible. This dedication led me to the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas where I served as a karma yogini for 6 months in order to immerse myself in the yogic lifestyle and have firsthand learning experiences. Most recently, I spent 6 months in Costa Rica where I volunteered in an indigenous community for several months in exchange for a 200-hour yoga teacher certification.
Upon returning back to New Orleans in April, I have come to understand very deeply that part of my dharma (purpose) in this life cycle is to share the timeless principles of love and community by shining a light on the internal essences of children and adults that are sustained by these same principles.. Louisiana consistently is on the bottom of the list of good education and at the top of the list of most stressed out populations, which in my opinion, could be directly correlated. In the near future, I plan to implement curriculum and create programs for children in preschool through high school (and their families) that are rooted in the principles of yoga, but also make relevant and meaningful connections to the current human experience - both in English and in Spanish. I am extremely excited to create a multi-faceted holistic type of education that addresses the whole, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, child. I believe that this training has definitely expanded my toolbox of information and now the goal is implementation.
What's missing now are the logistical things to be a fully functioning empire! I am now in the phase of checking the boxes the legal human experience brings, so to speak. This translates to things like insurance, registrations with the yoga alliance, trademarks, mobile classroom materials, and other behind the scenes nuances that facilitate a smoother flow. The remaining half of the campaign funds will be used towards the ripening and refining of this community.
