Ron Wilson's Artwork

On March 2nd, our friend Ron Wilson was admitted to the hospital. He suffered a massive stroke and the event went unnoticed by his medical team. A week later he fell non-responsive and was moved to a hospice facility where it was thought he would pass during his first night there.

Over the next few days in hospice, Ron’s famous resilience manifested in the unthinkable; he started to speak again. This gave us hope of recovery, but the reality is that Ron is now facing the most difficult decision of his life. Although this incredible human being has rehabilitated himself from post-polio symptoms countless times, a massive stroke has a different clinical outlook. A stroke is a disease involving an interruption in the arterial blood supply and if left untreated in the moment can lead to tissue death in the brain. This is what has happened to Ron which means he may not be able to walk, teach, draw or go home again.

When Ron fell unresponsive, his friends who have been by his side immediately thought to go to his home and save his art work. It is now safely stored but is without purpose or a home to be shown. We know you have all been shocked, saddened and confused by these events as we have. Many of you have asked what you can do to help. It is Ron’s wish that his drawings live on and continue to be shared. Although we now share a collective grief of the unknown, we have created this opportunity to celebrate Ron's artistry and life by asking you to contribute much-needed funds to archive, store and show his work, as well as help with ongoing medical expenses.

The gifts Ron has given to all of us with his craft, time, talent, teaching and mentoring cannot be measured. He continues to be friend, brother and father to many. We can never repay his generosity but we can help him now with heartfelt request. He has been through so much and this would bring him joy among the hardship he is now enduring.

Ron has received an incredible outpouring of love and support from everyone and is so thankful for the encouragement. Any financial support for this cause is not just for Ron, but for all those who will be able to experience his work going forward and we thank you for continued love and loyalty to him.

This campaign has been created by Ron's professed "adopted soul-daughter", Tracey Dwyer. Ron and I met in Cleveland, Ohio close to 20 years ago and have loved each other ever since. It is an honor and a privelege to serve him now in his time of need at his bedside, and to see that his work is preserved. As stated above, the primary intention of these funds is to show his artwork and to archive and store that which can not be shown. We would like to be in a positon where we could make a substantial donation to a museum in exchange for wall space to exhibit his work.  If there are funds left over from the primary cause, residuals will be used to go toward medical expenses. As Ron's medical and financial power of attorney I have his full permission to handle the funds on his behalf directly for this cause.

Please share your thoughts and ideas about potential places to show Ron’s work. The possibilities are endless so be sure to share your thoughts when you make your contribution. Ron has opened his heart to us his whole life and has never asked for ANYTHING. Spread the word and let’s see what can manifest to give back to this incredible artist!
