Rodney Norton Medical Expenses

Donation protected
My name is Jennifer Norton and I’m starting this page to raise money for my husband, Rodney Norton. Although he is too proud himself to ask for assistance and asked me not to put this out there for the world to see, I am anyway. He has helped so many others due to his good heart, I felt it worth a try to see if there are others that may be able to do the same for us.

Just over a year ago, Rodney lost his job after 17 years of service due to a restructure. Soon after, he became severely ill and we found ourselves in the emergency room on several occasions.  This led to further follow-ups and additional exams. To make a long story short, Rodney was diagnosed with severe Diverticulitis.

After numerous flare ups, there were concerns that the next one could be fatal. He had surgery at the end of March 2018 to remove 14 inches of his large intestines along with his appendix. Unfortunately, twelve months went by before he was able to work again. During that twelve months, we depleted our savings and all of Rodney’s investments (401k) from the 17 years of service at his last job.

Rodney and I have been together since we were 16 years old – we are 44 now. We graduated college together and married in 1995. We had our only son Caleb in 2004 who is now 14 years of age. We are very family oriented and care much for others. I know there are many others out there experiencing worse hardships than us, but we have worked hard, saved smart, but unfortunately it still wasn’t enough.

Rodney took a store manager position in September of 2018, his first attempt to put himself back on track as it pertains to his career. Unfortunately, on January 7, 2019, the District Manager showed up without notice and said the store was being closed effective immediately and all employees including Rodney lost their jobs.

As much as we continue trying to climb out of debt due to our most recent hardship, at least enough to be able to breathe, our luck keeps taking a turn for the worse.

In addition to depleting savings and having to pay additional penalty taxes for withdrawing investments early, we are still paying medical bills and in the process of even deferring student loan payments.

For anyone who is able to assist our family, I’m so very grateful.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Norton
