Robbie Moorer's cancer treatment

Donation protected
I am sad to report that my nephew Robbie Moorer (28 years old) has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 Brain Tumor.  The cancerous tumor is rare, fast growing and invasive which will require many treatments of chemo, radiation and clinical trials for his best chance of survival.  I have set up this Go Fund Me Page so that we may take away a bit of stress and worry for Robbie and his wife Mel.  My hope is this will allow them to concentrate on the best treatment available and not settle for the one that is closest to their house because they need to work to pay their bills.

Robbie was born and raised on Kent Island, MD and played soccer and lacrosse for Kent Island High School. He went on to graduate college from Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach SC earning a degree in Marine Science and is currently working for the college doing marine research.  If you know Robbie then you already know what a wonderful, fun loving, caring person he has been since the day he was born.  He is the most genuine person I know and any time I think of him, I immediately have a smile on my face because he has that special kind of personality that lifts your spirits just by being around him. My heart breaks that he and Mel have to go through this.

Just so everyone is on the same page, for the past 4 months Robbie had been having headaches.  They were gradually getting worse and turned into migraines.  His neck was bothering him as well so he thought he had a pinched nerve in his neck.  His doctor sent him for a CAT scan which revealed the tumor.  He went straight to the hospital where he stayed for a week and underwent surgery to remove the tumor, but they weren’t able to remove it all without risking brain damage or paralysis.  After sending the tumor to a pathology lab for extensive testing, it was determined that he has an Anaplastic Astrocytoma WHO Grade 3.  Robbie has seen the local Chemo and Radiation oncologists and is currently setup for second opinions with the Brain Tumor Treatment Center at UMMC and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.  We have been told that there aren’t very many options for treating this type of tumor except to start a combination of chemo and radiation for 5 days a week for a duration of 6-8 weeks and see how things respond.

So far, Robbie and Mel are still working to pay as much of their bills as possible but the medical bills are already starting to pile up. If his treatments end up being out of state, I’m not sure what kind of income they will end up having or what kind of bills they will incur from all of this.

I am pleading with everyone I know to please say a prayer for Robbie and keep him in your daily thoughts.  Can you please take the time to share this with all of your friends and family so they can do the same.  If you are able, please consider contributing to his go fund me page, every dollar will help and there is no amount too small!

Thank you,
Jean Keister (Robbie's crazy Aunt Jean)
