Help me help my mate raise funds for Spinal Cord Injuries

Having made a career through playing rugby union, after almost a decade playing in Sydney, my long time friend Rob Horne moved to the UK with his young family to continue his career. During a rugby match on the 14th of April, 2018 Rob suffered a horrific injury in the opening minute of the match. A collision with an opposition player resulted in an avulsion to his brachial plexus. In layman’s terms, all 5 nerves that control the shoulder, arm and hand were ripped from the spinal cord, leaving Rob’s arm completely paralysed. Since the injury Rob has undergone several surgeries to assist with his chronic pain, however the reality of this injury is that his arm will remain paralysed, and chronic pain ongoing.

Rob’s wife Simone and their two children have been amazing in supporting him throughout this massive life transition, uprooting their lives in the UK and returning to their home of Australia to be closer to their family and support network. As Rob focuses on the next chapter in his life, one of his new goals is to raise awareness of injuries like his, and what better way to do so than a personal challenge accompanied by some of his greatest supporters.

Rob has reached out to me as a long time mate, asking me join him in his challenge. So, later next month I will be setting out with Rob to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Track. Known as one of the world’s most spectacular and challenging treks, the Kokoda Track was the site of one of the bloodiest battles for Australian troops in World War II. Spanning 96km, through rugged mountainous terrain, the physical and mental challenges involved are undeniable.

Money will be raised to support Robs charity - The Cauliflower Club. The Cauliflower Club is a charity who embrace the values of Rugby Union and through their members, sponsors, ambassadors and partners raise funds to provide sporting and recreational equipment to  enhance the lives of  those with a disability, with a bias towards sporting related injuries.

I aim to raise $5,000 to assist Rob on his journey to raise awareness and funds for supporting those with a disability through sport. Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated and I know Rob is extremely grateful for the love and support that he has received since the time of injury.
