River Road Dog Park, Rochester, Mn
Donation protected
Help us make our public park safe and beautiful.
The city of Rochester does not maintain the popular, three acre River Road Dog Park, volunteers do.
We are raising funds to provide; disposable gloves for volunteer scoopers, poop bags on rolls for free distribution, and materials for educational signs such as printer ink, lamination, and paper.
We have found that using bags on rolls encourages dog owners to take the bag to the dumpster rather than placing it in the bundles of upcycled shopping bags and contaminating the clean bags or leaving it lay in the park. Having bags on rolls eliminates the problem of clean bags blowing around the neighborhood, becoming unsightly garbage and irritating the neighbors. We have a vendor who will supply us bags in bulk for a penny a bag.
We credit our rotating sign campaign with a significant increase in scooping by dog owners. Before the campaign began, volunteers scooped an average of 55 pounds of poop a week. Last week, we could find only 16 unscooped piles! Our efforts so far have significantly reduced the amount of unscooped waste in the park which protects the health of dogs, humans and our groundwater. Our signs encourage waste clean up, dog park etiquette, and vaccination.
If we can reach our donation goal, we will have everything we need for the next 12 months. Every little bit helps.
Help us make Rochester a great place for you and your best friend.
There aren't enough slobbery kisses and tail wags to express all of our appreciation.
