RITE OF PASSAGE
Hello, friends and allies! A few weeks ago, I received news that I’d been granted use of Federal Hall for my performance art piece, “Rite of Passage.” The performance will be held on 08 October 2016 at 2pm in the Rotunda.
Now I have little time to raise funds for the performance!
“Rite of Passage” is seven years in the making. It traverses tragedy, continents, trials, and rebirth. This is me, reappropriating the experience to derive power from chaos.
“Rite” is a participatory performance piece that explores the emotional landscape of my five-year rape trial in a Moroccan court. The performance will be contained within the Rotunda of Federal Hall in NYC, suffused with a documentary soundscape and spoken word. The soundscape, done in collaboration with NYC-based composer, Nina Young, is a blend of my recordings of the Moroccan court hearings and the composer’s haunting symphonic-electronic sound. The participant will engage with the environment and observe, interact with me as I stand before the “Tribunal”.
With your support, I will be able to perform Rite of Passage and to continue at this intersection of art and activism, in collaboration with amazingly talented women.
