In the spring of 2012, Justin Lloyd proudly graduated from Thayer Academy with a bright future ahead at Union College as a talented student-athlete. He was preparing to live out his dream of playing college baseball during the spring.
In January of his freshman year at Union, Justin had a sudden onset of painful stomach cramps. This ultimately resulted in numerous trips to the emergency room, and visits to multiple specialists. Justin and his family’s world came crashing down that February, when they received the diagnosis of an extremely rare intestinal cancer called adenocarcinoma.
Justin is entering his fourth year of extensive chemotherapy treatments. His sacrifices are immeasurable. Justin has had to set aside his goal to play college baseball. In January of 2015, he decided to transfer to Boston College. It was important to Justin to attend a college with a religious association that could provide spiritual guidance through this difficult journey. Proximity to home, and Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment was also a necessity.
As a student, he has faced the overwhelming side effects of chemotherapy and the return of his cancer throughout his college years. Justin is an absolutely incredible young man with an infectious personality and positive attitude. Justin’s slogan since this journey began has been “Rise Above It.”.
The Lloydstrong Medical Trust was established one month after a terrific Fund Raising event on Justin’s behalf at Ned Devine’s Restaurant & Pub, located in Boston. Approximately 400 people attended the January event. The proceeds collected that evening and subsequent web site donations will help support the Lloyd’s with medical expenses related to Justin’s cancer diagnosis that are not covered by health insurance. As anyone who has ever dealt with a significant illness or injury is aware, these expenses are immense. If you wish to donate, you can do on this website.
