Rikiesha Goals to Ecuador

Donation protected
Hello, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Rikiesha Metzger and I am from Baltimore, Maryland.

As manyof you are aware I am going to Ecuador, however, what you may not know is my reason for participating in this amazing opportunity. For the last 10 years or so, I have worked with several non-profits with the intent of giving back to my community. Being raised in a military environment has taught me the value of accepting different people's cultures and backgrounds. I embrace experiences that allow me to enlarge my territory and the  people that I meet along the way  become a part of my family.

Speaking of family, my sister Lyneia Hawkins is the one who inspired me to go to Ecuador in the first place. When she mentioned that she was going to Ecuador to study abroad boy, did I get excited! I thought it would be interesting to share this experience with her. The more we motivate each other to pursue our life's purpose, the more our paths become aligned. Hence, our going to the Ecuador study abroad program.

Did you know black students account for only 5% of students that go study aboard?(http://www. huffingtonpost.com/jordyn- holman/study-abroad-its-not- all-black-and-white_b_7020586. html)
I would like to raise that percentage and be an example to the younger generation by encouraging them to apply.  It is important for people to get out of their comfort zone in order for them to have new experiences. In recent days, sad news of a devastating earthquake in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador was broadcast around the world. Although the earthquake did not have an impact on the program directly, one of the missions of the Ecuador Professional Prepartion Program, is to provide opportunities to contribute and assist in areas where there is a need.

With your donation, your generosity will help make it possible for me to serve those who are less fortunate...sort of like, the butterfly effect :)  Those of you who know me know that I am a giving person so you will not be surprised to hear that I am not only raising money for me but for my sister also. She is a student at Howard University, working on her PhD.  Since my network spans larger than hers, I plan to donate half of my proceeds to her. These funds will help pay for our program fees, plane tickets and the cost of our expenses on the trip. Her half of the funds will be transferred into her account at the end of June, 2016.  Any amount that you can give to this cause will be greatly appreciated. With that being said, please consider helping us get to Educador. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! Please see link below for more information about the program.
