Refugees inclusion through art

Donation protected
ABOUT THE PROJECT

RifugiArti is an inclusion project. A welcoming and protected space where we help refugees discern paths of discovery and facilitate positive growth through art.

RifugiArti provides a place where migrants and refugees can express their emotions through painting, drawing and sculpture, while also exploring the beauty of art through visits to museums, palaces, squares, exhibitions, workshops, and studios of other artists.

RifugiArti is designed to bring together artistic talents still dormant and unspoken.
Fostering support that allows participants to discover new passions that can lead to a concrete working autonomy and a real contribution to the host country.

In 2017, we launched the RifugiArti project as a pilot program for 6 months to determine the sustainability behind the idea. We are currently located in Rome.

HOW CAN YOU HELP

Please consider donating to this campaign, and sharing it with your friends, colleagues and family on Facebook, email, Twitter, and text message. Each share makes a real difference!

We are asking for donations not for an abstract project but to support, expand and make RifugiArti a stable institution, so that extraordinary ideas can continue to flourish.

We have been able to foster a supportive environment that is free to all migrants and refugees, which has created a space to encourage individual creativity and artistic ability.

We strongly believe not only the quality of spaces, but also the qualities of human relationships fostered through these projects help those who have not yet discovered the complexity of our country; we help refugees get in touch with the healthiest part our society.

WHO IS FASASI?

Fasasi Abeedeen is a 33 year old Nigerian refugee sculptor currently living in Rome, Italy. He arrived to Italy in 2015, after a perilous journey across the Mediterranean. During his journey, he saw unimaginable, inexplicable tragedy. Upon his arrival, Fasasi lacked the adequate words to explain all that he saw. To communicate the calamity of his journey, he turned to what he knows best: ART.

Fasasi uses only three tools to craft his ordinate sculptures: his hands, and two small knives. In 2017, he had his first exhibition titled  “The Landing: after many dangers, the arrival in a safe harbor.” This exhibition depicts all that he saw, in an effort to raise awareness and to show people the precariousness of his journey.

He hopes to inspire other migrants to pursue their passions, but also to foster agency among global citizens to integrate refugees by promoting and supporting their talents. In the future, with the help of In Migrazione and your donations, he hopes to be able to expand RifugiArti, by starting courses and programs to help other migrants and refugees discover the art that is dormant within their stories and souls.
