Riding in a Dream

Donation protected

I am here asking for help to build my dream and teach my children the value of hard work and to never give up on your dreams. The way I am choosing to do that is restoring my 1969 Chevelle Malibu that my father had purchased years before I was born. I'm not sure where he got the car from but he loved this one the most out of all the other vehicles he collected. He had a good friend paint it for him (it's the blue one that's pictured) and he did the mechanicals himself that brought this machine to be known on the streets near my home town. I always dreamed of riding in it with him. He always wanted to cruise the historical Route 66. Sadly neither of us  ever got the chance before he got sick and passed at the age of 53. I was 15 and very lost. I did manage to hang on to the car and a parts car he had bought since the front of his baby was crunched on the passenger side while at the grocery store. You see he had to use this car for a while one winter as the family vehicle since none of the others would run and I can only guess we didn't have the money for repairs to them. The car sat there after for about 15 years in the grass. Then a second parts car was purchased from northern Wisconsin for the frame and front clip. It also sat due to no time or extra money. Both were moved to a storage barn and moved again to another. I finally was able to start work on the project about 6 years ago. It was rough even back then to find time or any money to devote to it. I did have to stop the project after the house I grew up in and the place where my shop was located went up for sale. Since then the car has been sitting. For two years at my sister's house until they moved and for the last couple years at a storage lot. Now I will finally be able to bring the car itself home soon since we now own a house! The problem there is that my wife and I work full time jobs and work very long hours to provide the house and everything needed for my family. We have just gotten to the point now of saving a little extra money for emergency or repairs to the house. So there really is no money for this car. I am able to sell a few parts that aren't needed for the build but beyond that I have the feeling it will be years before I am able to do anything with it. And I fear by then my children will have lost interest in the pile of parts sitting in dad's garage. So anything donated will go straight to the goal of one day being able to achieve that old dream of cruising 66. But I'll be the old man and I'll have my own kids to make the memories with and pass the stories on to.
