We received a phone call from our vet about 15 minutes ago...no more charges until it's paid off. Keep in mind...I can't blame them and they are awesome people...but almost every bird we bring in has lengthy hospital stays because they are so sick. So, no more rescues until we get the vet bill down. We can't. We wouldn't be able to provide them medical care. We would like to save them all...I think everyone would. BUT please....share like you've never shared before... if you would like to donate directly to the vet's office the number is [phone redacted]. They have done so much for us and we are so grateful to them. BUT they have their limits too. They have bills to pay too. In the past month alone, Rickie's Parrot Rescue has taken in a baby blue and gold macaw who was attacked by a boston terrier and suffered a broken back, a red lored amazon attacked by a dog many years ago and instead of receiving medical treatment..was thrown in an aquarim to live...when rescued this bird was found with cockroaches in the aquarium...they never even named her, a major mitchell cockatoo who had a bacterial infection in his feet that caused multiple fractures and arthritis (this baby is less than a year old), 3 blind birds (conure, senegal and amazon) rescued from a hoarding situation...the ammonia from the rat urine may have been what caused their blindness, we cannot find another explanation.
These babies have been vetted and three of them had lengthy hospital stays. We are happy to say that most are being adopted!!! These birds have a strong will to live and make wonderful, loving pets in most cases. That's why we do what we do. These babies derve a loving home as much as any dog or cat.
However, our emergency medical funds have also been depleted. We have had many people step up and donate and we are forever greatful for that! BUT we also had to tap the emergency funds for these babies. We need your help to continue doing what we do. Please give and share! These babies deserve it!

Our mission is to take in parrots and birds that have been abused, neglected or who are simply losing their homes. We do not judge and know that sometimes life changes force you to give up the pets that you love. We screen all of our fosters as well as all of our potential adopters. We place our birds only in the most qualified, loving homes. Our mission also includes education. Owning a parrot is NOT easy. They are not like dogs. However, with the proper upbringing, knowledge and commitment, they can be loving, wonderful companions. Too many people think owning a parrot is “cool” without really doing the research. Please do the research before you decide you want to bring in these highly intelligent toddlers. They are wonderful and amazing…but they are as demanding as as a two your old child..and can throw temper tantrums like one too! So, please do your research before bringing a parrot into your home. It will require some changes in your every day living and when they are given up…they mourn as much as their owners.
We specialize in special needs parrots as well as hospice birds. We give breeders a place to bring these babies so they have a chance at living long happy lives rather than euthanizing because they are not profitable. There is no need to give up on a parrot with special needs. Like humans, they learn to adapt…and they do live long happy lives.
