RALLY FOR RICK

Rick has always been able to overcome every obstacle life has thrown at him, but this time he needs your help.

Back story:

When Rick was young he lost his right leg in an train accident.  He overcame the challenges of growing up with an artificial leg, but it did not slow him down.  He lived life to the fullest.   He became a single father and raised Tanner as a single father.  Rick left his family, friends and life in Colorado behind to move to Montana to give him and Tanner a better life.  Together they made a new life in Montana.  Tanner grow up in to a young man and a great father as well.  Tanner is now raising little Henry and Mya as Rick raised him.  Life seemed to be going well.

In June of 2017, Rick suffered from his first stroke.  Once again, Rick was facing a big challenge and once again Rick rallied.  He worked really hard to recover from the set back.  He had Tanner and his beautiful grandchildren to live for.  Life was moving forward again.

And now:

On December 7, 2018, his world was turned upside down and violently shaken once again.   This time the results are more devastating.  Rick suffered another stroke while at work.  Knowing the signs this time he was rushed to the hospital.  He had another massive stroke overnight.   The final stroke was the worst kind of stroke a person can have.   The strokes happened on the both sides of his brain, therefore effecting the left side of his body this time.  When Rick woke up, he was completely paralyzed on his left side.   He could not talk or swallow.  Because he could not swallow, he developed aspiration pneumonia within days.  However, he knew what happened and what was going on.

The doctors in Montana told Rick that he may not ever walk, talk or swallow again.  They were basically giving Rick no will to live.  Family and friends RALLIED around Rick and urged him to fight to live.   And with that Rick began to rally again.  It was decided that the best chance Rick had to make a recovery was to move him back to Denver to a rehabilitation center that specializes in traumatic brain injuries.  Time was of the essence.  Rick was transported from Montana to Colorado on December 23rd via medical jet because that was the only way to safely transport him.  The cost of the transport alone was $261,000.00 of which Rick is responsible for $13,000.00 of that.

Rick is not a wealthy man.  He lived pay check to pay check, like most of us.  His medical insurance stopped on December 31st and he is now paying for Cobra Insurance.  Tanner had to stayed back in Montana to wrap up loose ends with Rick’s house and his belongings.  Tanner will relocate to Denver to help care for Rick as soon as possible.  After the stroke Rick lost his job immediately and has no income.  With no income, medical bills pilling up by the minute and the need to move Tanner to Colorado...Rick really needs our help.  Rick is fighting so hard to overcome the physical part of this.  But he can not do it alone.  We are asking for your help to RALLY around Rick for the financial support he needs.   The money raised will be put towards Rick’s on going medical bills, insurance cost and daily needs and long term care.  Some of the funds will be used to help relocate Tanner back to Colorado as well.

Every penny helps.  If you can spare even $5.00, that is $5.00 closer to our goal.
Any help is appreciated and if you are uncomfortable donating through Go Fund Me, contact Diane Marquardt or Ernestine Ferguson, through Facebook, to find out where to send a check. Thank you all so much for your help.
