My name is Lottie Hensley, and I am the youngest daughter of Richand and Cynthia Hensley. My siblings are Tifany Martin and Mickey Hensley. We are asking for dotanions for my parents, as they are in a desperate time of need. For those of you who are unaware, my parents were involved in a traumatic accident. We ask that you please consider a donation from the heart.
Cindy and Richard have been married for almost 40 years. They are a genuine example of true love. Anyone who knows them would agree they are the most warm, kind-hearted, loving people you will ever meet. They are the type of couple who is willing to open their door to anyone in need. They embrace life with open arms, and treat even strangers as family.
WHAT HAPPENED:
On Wednesday, May 30th, Cindy and Richard were involved in a life changing motorcycle accident. They were on vacation in Ruidoso, NM when an SUV t-boned their Harley Davidson, totaling both vehicles. The driver of the SUV was at fault, and ticketed for careless driving. Our mom had to be life-flighted to the UMC Trauma Center in El Paso, TX. Our dad was also flown to UMC after trip to a local hospital.
Cindy is suffering from two fractures to her skull, brain swelling, bleeding on the brain, a compound fracture of her femure, and a fractured tibia, ankle, wrist, and finger.
Richard is suffering from a fractured hip, pelvis, tibia, and knee. He underwent open book hip and pelvic surgery, during which he lost five liters of blood. Our dad is scheduled for another hip surgery this Friday, June 8th.
Our parents will forever be changed by this tragic accident. Cindy is still very confused and will require a neurological specialist to work with her due to the severity of the head trauma. Neither of our parents are remotely self sufficient. They are physically unable to move out of their hospital beds. Our mom is both physically and mentally unable.
OUR GOAL:
We are fundraising for 3 main reasons:
1. To cover the out of pocket transportation cost to get Richard and Cindy out of El Paso and back to Austin. Their hospital stay at UMC will be coming to an end, but they desperately need to be transfered to a rehabilitation center. The care they will receive at the rehab center will be vital to their recovery. The total out of pocket cost to transport them via ambulance is $10, 500.
2. Our parents desperately need help with their monthly bills such as mortgage, car notes, vehicle insurance, electricity, etc. The monthly total is approximately $2,250. They will be unable to work for an extended amount of time, and will need help staying afloat.
3. To help with in-patient/ out-patient care for both of them. Rehabilitation and in-home care will be an imperative part of their recovery. While they may never be fully restored to their old selves these professional services will help them reach a "new normal."
WHY THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO US:
This fundraiser is so very important to us because it can directly influence our parent's outcome. We never anticipated having to care for them as if they were infants; not while they are still so young and vibrant. It is absolutely heart breaking. God has blessed them with life and a second chance; He is healing Richand and Cindy one day at a time.
