Vet Bill for Lily

Hi everyone. I’m Lynsey & I run a small non funded cat rescue called Rescue Cats NI.
I work full time to help support my rescue. I try and help as many stray, injured and abandoned cats and kittens that I can.
On Tues 30th May I was asked to help an abandoned cat I’ve now named Lily. She was abandoned by her owners around 3 months ago when they moved and left her behind. The neighbours fed her and looked out for her. On Wed afternoon she sneaked into their home and gave birth to 3 kittens on their bed. I collected the little family. Unfortunately 1 kitten passed away overnight. On Thurs evening Lily became unwell and had to attend an out of hours Vet, the closest to me. Ended up she started labour again and had one large kitten stuck in her birth canal that could not be moved. Her cries of pain will haunt me. A section then had to be done to save Lily. There was a lot of infection and sadly one dead kitten. I bottle fed the 2 babies and fought to save them whilst their mum was fighting for her life. I picked Lily up the following day and was presented with a bill for £950.20. This included charges for gloves, masks, buster collar, nurse. Totally incredulous. I paid it without checking the bill as I was exhausted and the kittens and mum were my priority. I had to get them home with mum.
There is now only one kitten surviving, Simeon who is being handreared by the fabulous Wendy Spooner of Animal Connexions, another wonderful charity.
It’s been extremely stressful and hurtful this week. The vet in question has publicly stated that they offer reduced fees to a certain rescue organisation. But for me and poor Lily we’ve me ripped off and made fools of. How can some animals mean more than others?
Please help my dedicated work to cats in need. I’ve rescued hundreds and will continue to do so, it’s my passion in life.xx
