In 2018, our daughter Rhiannon set off all by herself to South Dakota to pursue a career as a 911 operator, a job that she loves. She is also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. She has terrific momentum for a novice adult just 20 years old. On January 25, 2019, Rhiannon called me with news. News that no person, and no parent ever wants to hear, from 350 miles away no less. Breast Cancer. Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. At 20 years old. Our Daughter. Cancer. We still cannot wrap our minds around it.
While the prognosis is very very good, she will still need medical treatments that are costly despite medical insurance coverage. Rhiannon has already undergone a lumpectomy and is currently undergoing radiation and hormone treatments. The type of cancer she has is very treatable and we are very confident she will kick Cancer's ass.
Inevitably, the medical bills are piling up, right next to the rent, groceries, etc. It clearly didn't occur to her, or us, that we would need to save our money for cancer treatment. Rhiannon is still working at the police station, but the firefighting and EMT duties will be put on hold for now.
Geographically, she's alone in South Dakota and as you can imagine she's a bit scared, but staying strong. She's trying to handle it as any adult would, but like the 20 year old she is she refuses to come home. That girl is doing her best to give her Mother grey hair.
Rhiannon has and is dedicating her young adult life to helping others as well as saving lives, now we are asking for your help for our daughter. Be it financial, spiritual and/or emotional. If you know our family, you know how difficult it is for us to ask. We can only do so much for her finacially, but rest assured we are doing everything we can.
We appreciate anything you can do to help Rhiannon. A prayer, a donation, encouragement...anything. The funds raised will not only help with her medical bills, but may also give her a leg up for when she has kicked the shit out of cancer so she can pay the bills placed on the back burner,in order to pay for the medications and other things more urgent. The spiritual and emotional support will be priceless to Rhiannon, and to us.
