$5 to Help Me Study Abroad - London
In 2009, my mother passed away, and I lost my home. I had to couch hop between my friends and family in order to keep from living on the streets. Between 2011 and 2013 I was finally able to acquire my own place, and transitioned from renting rooms to sharing in an apartment with some friends, but I struggled to maintain a full-time permanent job. After being laid-off and losing my apartment at the beginning of 2014, I was back to couch hopping. Being 28 years old and feeling like I had failed, I decided to return to school to obtain my A.A. degree with the hope of transferring to a University.
Since returning to school in Summer 2014, I have reached all of educational and career goals so far, and I will continue on moving forward. I have 3.4 GPA, I am apart of ACES, Aspire, Bridge, and EOP & S, which are all support programs for students, I work for the Aspire program and ESL Department, I am in the Honors Program and Teacher Preparation Institute, and last fall I was added to the Dean's List for academic acheivement.
I am studying abroad because I believe it will be a highly rewarding experience, giving me a better cultural background, providing me with an experience to learn in another country so that I can share my experiences with other students. I look forward to researching for my classes at unique sources that I wouldn’t have anywhere else, visiting libraries and campuses in London, and studying with other students will give me chance to learn about new ways of approaching research and studying. Since becoming a student at Mt. SAC I have been keeping a high GPA even though I do not have a stable home or transportation. I I want to be role a model for the returning student, the homeless student, and the black student that despite all odds, pulled through to be something great.
I would just like to say THANK YOU to all you that I have been supporting my educational goals for studying abroad. My passport came in the mail over the weekend, so now I can finish the last of the paper work, and begin picking the class I will be taking while in LONDON. Thank you for all the love and support.
Put some chalkies on it!
First, I would like to thank everyone who has supported my gofundme account, and my education goals to study abroad in London for the Fall 2015 semester. I recently found out that I won another scholarship, and with the combine amount of both scholarships, my trip is almost complete paid for. Now I only need to collect a fraction of what I needed before to cover the last remaining part of the balance. I appreciate all the continued support and love.
I’m WAAAAY UP. I feel Blessed!
