Rhae's Story
This is Rhae Christen Gempesaw or RC, the daughter of Rhaney and Contessa Gempesaw of Biñan, Laguna in the Philippines
Several weeks after Rhae was born, her parents noticed the yellow coloring of her skin and eyes. Their concern escalated when her pediatrician felt that something wasn't quite right while examining her abdomen. One test led to another and another and another. After a liver biopsy, Rhae was diagnosed with biliary atresia, indicative of beginning cirrhosis and liver transplantation.
The biopsy confirmed the greatest fear any parent could ever know. Rhae needs a liver transplant. Her liver is damaged and she needs to have this surgical replacement. Several medical opinions confirmed the diagnosis. Apart from the immense emotional stress of having a sick member of the family, there is also the seemingly insurmountable task of coming up with the funds that will be needed to have the procedure done.
The estimated cost of PhP5 - PhP6Million is indeed daunting. Rhae's parents are currently looking for other options that would need a lesser amount. So far they found out that liver transplant done in Taiwan is PhP4 - PhP 5 Million in Taiwan and PhP2 - PhP 3 Million in India. However, they also need funds to continuously support the medication of Rhae including her monthly laboratories to prepare her young body for the major procedure.
