Broken Fences and Broken Promises

Donation protected
Inspiring Talkers Therapy and Learning Center offers speech, occupational, and physical therapy services to children. We also have a small school for children who are significantly impacted by their disabilities. We are very passionate about helping the kids and families in Northern Colorado who have special needs. The therapists are very dedicated to the children, believing every child CAN do!

The Short Story:
We have worked very hard for the past year to raise money to build a fence with the plan of installing a playground area for our kids this spring. We paid in full understanding the fence was complete, later that week the fence fell down and snapped into pieces. We currently have no fenced area for our kids to play! Great Decks and Fencing has not responded to any of our calls or messages.

Along with our fence, our hearts are broken for our children and families of Inspiring Talkers who had their hopes set on a fun safe place to learn and play outside this summer!

The Long Story:
We spent the past year raising money to build a fence on our property for our kids to be able to play outside. We needed a vinyl fence that was at least 6' tall to ensure the safety of our kids when they were playing. We hired Great Decks and Fencing, a local fencing company to install it for us. Our quote for the fence was for $13,500. John Shook, owner of Great Decks and Fencing, built the fence the first week of February. He told us that we modified our original plans and that we had to pay for the sprinkler parts he broke during installation. We ended up paying him $15,549 for the fence!

Unfortunately, it fell over and broke within the first week of being installed. We worked with John to try to get it fixed. The fence posts had only been installed 6" into the ground, rather than the 2-3' required!! He promised us repeatedly to take care of the problem. After many, many opportunities John promised that it would be fully repaired and ready for playground installation by Sunday March 26th. On Monday, March 27th we received a message that stated he did not get to finish. We have never heard from him again. He will not answer calls, texts, or emails. We have been left with a mess of parts and pieces and no playground opportunities for our kids.

Our kids need a safe place to play and learn. It is our goal to get a playground area that is accessible for all children to play and to install a cement path to teach children to ride bikes. We can't do any of this without a safe enclosed area for the kids.
