Harvey is a beautiful three year old kitty and she’s in need of your help!!

I’m writing today from a point of grief and hopelessness. This morning, I woke to find Harvey struggling to breathe with evidence of bleeding on her fur and all over my apartment.  I whisked her off to emergency at 10am and by 2pm her vet bill reached $4,000 and we still do not have a diagnosis!!

Since January of this year my baby Harvey has been suffering from health issues impairing her ability to breathe and eat.  Every visit to her doctor yielded a different diagnosis each time which included various treatments of antivirals, antibiotics and pain meds, not to mention having to wear a medical cone on and off for her flare ups but today she hit her breaking point.

The vet looked her over and pointed out a massive swelling under her tongue that had not previously been there. They diagnosed her with a “salivary mucocele” which is essentially a collection of saliva that has leaked from a damaged salivary gland or duct. The vet assured me that once they gave her some sedatives they would be able to remove the excess saliva from the gland which would in turn relieve her of all of these symptoms that have been affecting her these past 7 months. FINALLY A DIAGNOSIS!!!  A diagnosis that fit all her symptoms over the last seven months!!!

After an hour the vet called me back early to let me know that the procedure was not successful. When they gave her the sedative she began violently sneezing up yellow chunky mucus from her nose and when they tried to remove the saliva, all they got was air. The doctor referred me to a specialist at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. $516.42 later I was taking my sedated Harvey in another Uber to the ER. Once there, they took her quickly to the back and held her there while the emergency vet explained to me the procedures that she would undergo while she was being held in the Intensive Care Unit for the next 24-48 hours. Before leaving I signed a DNR form in case she were to undergo any unforeseen problems during her examine under anesthetic and then I paid $3,500 for them to be able to do whatever they needed in order to save her. After I paid I went to the back and found her in a glass case pressed up into the back corner, eyes wide and terrified of her surroundings with all the people walking around and the dogs all barking. I opened her case and gave her pets and kisses before I left to go home. After 4 hours the hospital called to let me know that after all of the extensive levels of examination that she may require further care which will only add thousands of dollars to the total.

Harvey means the world to me. I got her after my third year of theatre school when I was in a place of extreme loneliness. She is the sweetest little girl, and is only 3 years old. She loves to play, and on her good days you would find her chirping for treats in the morning, playing in her many boxes in the afternoon, and chasing the reflection of light off our cell phones at sunset. She sleeps beside me on the pillow right next to me at night and licks my hand until I fall asleep.

3 years old is way too young, she has barely even lived!!

With all these bills adding up, I fear I won’t have enough to get her to the point of treatment, and Harvey deserves that.
