K9 Eros Memorial Endowment Fund

I humbly ask for your help in providing owners of retired police dogs with financial support.  100% of monies raised from this Go Fund Me account will be split equally between Underhill Animal Hospital in Orlando, Florida and Lake Emma Animal Hospital in Lake Mary, Florida.  The proceeds will be held in trust by the hospital and used to offset the cost of care needed by retired K9s.

My story.....
I had the honor and privilege of caring for K9 Eros after he retired from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office in 2016.  Although Eros's career had ended, his human partner was ready, willing and able to continue to protect and serve our community and our nation.   As such, he entrusted Eros to me.

Like many working dogs, Eros did not escape injury during his time of service.  Diagnosed with Spondylosis as a young dog, Eros's back deteriorated at a steady rate over the years due to the rigorous work and schedule; bringing pain and discomfort to his every day life.  Taking responsibility for Eros meant providing him with an array of daily medications and nutritional supplements, high quality food, numerous and frequent trips to the vet as well as several rounds of cold laser therapy.  In the 2 years I had Eros, I spent over $5,300 on his care.  Eros, a priceless companion, was worth more than the cost and, if asked to do it again, I would do it all without hesitation or limit.

We laid Eros to rest on October 18, 2018.  Over these past few days I've recalled our time together and am thankful that I not only could provide a loving home but that I had the financial means to care for Eros as he deserved.  It is not lost on me how many others may not have the ability to financially afford caring for these heroic dogs during retirement, especially police officers and deputies.  Once K9s retire, they are the sole responsibility of their owner.  There is no pension, retirement or health care program.  Their needs must be self funded by their human caregivers; including the cost of putting them down when the time comes.  My goal is to help ease the financial burden that falls upon these remarkable people.
