Restored Vision for Wendell

Donation protected
Wendell is my older brother. We lost our dad from heart disease when I was a 19 and Wendell 21. We lost our oldest brother from heart disease at age 41 and our Mom from cancer at 70. We are all that is left of our family. When I suffered a brain hemorrhage 10 years ago Wendell left his job and came to care for me and my family while I recovered. He is a registered nurse, a caretaker. He's very good at what he does, emergency room nursing.

About a year ago Wendell started having issues with his vision. He thought it was eye strain from the computers at work. He continued to work until last fall when his vision deteriorated rapidly and he could no longer see well enough to continue nursing. He returned to Park City, Utah and went to work at the ski resort he had worked in the past. While there, because of his vision, he fell and injured his knee. Torn meniscus that requires surgery. Apparently Utah has the toughest Workman's Comp program in the nation so he was denied benefits. He never asked for help but I knew he had no other resources so I sent him a plane ticket to come to Georgia and stay with me until he can get the proper medical care.

Since he has been here we have seen the orthopedic surgeon and eye surgeon. The knee can wait for now but he has the worst sudden onset cataracts they have ever seen and is basically blind. Only can see light and some colors. He has no insurance, Obama Care would be $1000/month with a $6000 deductable and would not even cover all the surgery, plus we would have to wait 60 days to start coverage.  He was denied Medicaid (Georgia is one of the hardest states to recieve Medicaid) and was denied SS Disability because you have to be disabled for a year to qualify. This has all been crazy to me that someone who has never asked for help can not get it when needed.

His first eye surgery is scheduled for next Monday and the second 2 weeks later. When his vision is restored (it's a short recovery) he can return to nursing, get insurance, and have his knee taken care of. We received the shocking news yesterday that his eye surgery will be $8300. That's with a discount for self pay! Quite unbelievable.

I am asking for help to get him back on his feet. If you cannot make a monetary donation please keep Wendell in your prayers. He needs them.
