22 Dogs from Hoarding Horrors

Wags and Walks was there when no one else was for 2 sets of dogs--22 in total--rescued from the horrors of HOARDING  and BACKYARD BREEDING.


First we said yes to a group of 10 Yorkie terrier mixes who were being kept in deplorable conditions - from a hoarder/backyard breeder. We learned about them at 8am and they were at our vet by 2pm being treated. 

All dogs arrived infested with fleas, many with severe skin infections and ear infections, one sweet pup had a foxtail lodged so deeply in her ear that she required surgery immediately to relieve the intense pain.   Almost all of these terriers have dental disease (from neglect and poor nutrition) they will all require some degree of dental intervention .  Several have dislocated kneecaps ("luxating patellas") - we hope they can live comfortably without surgery.   All require spay/neuter and vaccines.

While we were scrambling to rescue the terriers, some of the Wags and Walks team was at the Animal Shelter and they were presented with and other large group of dogs that had just come in from a hoarder/backyard breeder...


With faces like these, we just couldn't say no.

Things quickly got more complicated when all of the shelter puppies tested positive for Parvo and Giardia (Parvo is a deadly virus that affects puppies when they haven't been properly cared for or vaccinated. Giardia is a highly contagious parasite that infects the GI system.) 

Still we couldn't say no, because if not us then who?

Wags and Walks immediately ushered 12 dogs and puppies to our vet - 9 puppies are hospitalized and receiving aggressive treatment for Parvo and giardia, while 3 young dogs are hospitalized and being observed for signs of parvo exposure.
