Over five years ago, shortly after moving from Illinois to Idaho, my puppy of five years, Tessie, was kidnapped from the fenced in back yard she was playing in. There were no signs or any indications as to where she went or what happened to her. As would be imagined, it was absolutely devastating to me and resulted in countless nights of crying myself to sleep. For five years, there was no sight, sound, or news of any kind as to what happened to her. The local shelter indicated it was common for the area for pet dogs to be taken for the purpose of being used as a training dog for dog fighting rings. The entire time, I lived with believing this was the ultimate fate of my beloved fur-baby.
This past Monday, my birthday, I received the best, most unimaginably fantastic news. The shelter in Idaho contacted me (due to the microchip that she received during the original rescue / adoption process) indicating that Tessie had been surrendered to them . Frankly, I’m still in shock. You always hear of amazing stories like this, but never think it would happen to someone you know…or you even yourself. I mean, this is the kind of thing that only happens in fiction.
I learned that she was found five years ago by a teenage couple who had found her battered and bloody. They cared for and loved her the entire time to the best of their abilities. Apparently the only reason they recently surrendered her was due to falling on hard times. As unfortunate as that is for them, it means that I’m getting my girl back. Every detail I’ve heard about her since her resurfacing leads me to believe that she’s the same cheerful, loving, and most adorable dog a guy could ask for.
This brings us to the current logistical and financial obstacles I must overcome to bring her home and ensure that all of her medical concerns are addressed. The shelter indicated that she is in need of significant dental work, has an infection, and will likely need surgery to address other concerns. Needless to say, the expenses of bringing her home and ensuring she recovers to a healthy state are going to be large.
This is where I need your help! With your donations, I can help cover the following:
1. medical and veterinary bills
2. travel expenses including planes, trains, and automobiles
3. potential moving expenses to a place that allows pets
Using extra funds that are donated, I also plan on making a donation to the young couple who are facing financial hardship as a thank you for taking care of Tessie for all these years. I also would like to make a donation to the shelter that assisted me years and days ago.
