Hello, my name is Jonathan Casey. REPURPOSED is the true story of my life, my addiction, and my struggle to get sober. For years I suffered with a serious drug and alcohol addiction. I am not ashamed to say that I have overdosed on heroin, fought a long and hard battle with cocaine and crack, and devastated my body with decades of crystal meth use. I have been arrested numerous times and even imprisoned. At the end of all of this, the only call I would make repeatedly was to the suicide hotline because I was too embarrassed and ashamed to tell my family or friends what was going on. I found myself in the psych ward unable to believe that I had gotten to that point. I was completely broken and had lost all hope. REPURPOSED is the story of my journey into a new life of sobriety.
I need help! The money is going to pay for editing the final version of the book, legal fees involved in the publishing, self-publishing fees to get the book off the ground if I am unable to find a publisher to pick up the book.

Below is the backstory for the book as well as what the book means to me and what I intend to do with all this.
Getting sober was an immense struggle for me because I was for once in completely uncharted territory without a single idea of what was to come next. When I finally had had enough, a friend of mine took me to my first AA meeting where I heard a message unlike anything else that I had heard before. Through AA I have remained sober and have completely transformed my life. I am not always completely sold on AA but I know that if I can stay sober one day at a time that is all that matters.
Early on in this journey I realized that my story could provide hope for others. Over the course of getting sober I have been asked by more than 50 people to bring them to their first meeting as well as countless amounts of people asking for information on everything from their children’s heroin use to their wives drinking and pills problems. A few months into sobriety I began writing about what was going on. I was unable to completely convey what it was like but I was able to write it all out in a stream of consciousness. It was at that point that I realized that I had something bigger planned.
A friend of mine was a writer and I asked him to help me formulate it into a book. I would write and he would organize and edit and this went on for 2 years where I would give him money periodically which came out to over $7,500. We never finished even after all that money and I was left to figure something else out. I searched and searched and found someone to help me edit the book so that I was able to publish it. That someone was Woody Brown. He is a PhD student in literature at the University of Buffalo and has had experience in writing already his own book. So we sat down and began finishing up the book starting again from the beginning.
The reason that the book is so important to me is because I had read a tons of books about getting sober and the one that touched me the most was while I was incarcerated which was “A Million Little Pieces”. I could completely identify with the character and could feel the agony that he was going through. To find out later that his story was a lie crushed me and left me feeling empty. I am telling my story from the bottom of my heart which it both true and genuine.
I had no idea that there was something else other than the life I was living. I was unaware there could be a life without drugs or alcohol. I plan on starting a foundation with a majority of the profits to help educate mainly young adults on the dangers of drugs and alcohol with a twist. The goal is to bring knowledge of recovery by letting children and young adults know that there are services and programs like AA and NA and Al-Anon and counseling and rehab at their fingertips if they so choose to search. This will be done by funding programs for free art studios and music classes and yoga and a plethora of other activities that are cost prohibitive to most people. By providing these services and fun activities you gain trust and build spirits and can then better encourage healthy life choices.
