Replace truck totaled in ice storm
He makes friends of strangers wherever he goes.
His friends know him by his ability to make a happy time out of even bad situations often breaking into dance for no reason at all except to celebrate the moment.
Ten years ago he suffered a back injury. He fought through the process of getting social security and the brutal and long trek through medical treatment. Neuropathic pain is notoriously difficult to treat and the pain is constant. His back is injured in three places. He is never out of pain and cant walk more than a few blocks. Social security never covers expenses but he has made it work. Through many failed treatments he kept his hope and good humor and sharing spirit in tact.
Living by extremely meager means he still found ways to keep up, reselling found collectibles and comics at flea markets and collecting cans and bottles. Making five bucks here and there is how he gets by. He loved even this life and stayed upbeat and as active as he could.
But yesterday in a serious ice storm a large tree fell on the road in front of him and his beloved red truck was smashed like a can. He was able to walk away. He has had many losses in life, but as he watched his truck loaded onto the tow truck he looked pale and haunted. Without the ability to run around town and be resourceful he will be housebound in his cabin which is away from main buslines without a dollar in his pocket.
His situation really is dire. His truck made life possible. He's a fighter-but without a replacement vehicle he can't get to medical appointments, buy food or get to the post office. In the freezing climate of modern times the sick and disabled are not cared for. It is a brutal and frightening reality to be poor and sick in America today. There is little help and what there is has been exhausted. There is no where to turn.
If you are a friend of his-you may be suffering a similar fate-but our friend Arlan cannot fend for himself without his community and the world he has touched rallying around him. This is it for him. He is afraid. If you know the fear of being adrift in this modern world that has no safety net, please throw out a thread to catch him and may good luck be returned to you three times!
It would be a miracle this loving music maker to not be left alone. He gave us a place to make music and dance and laugh. Music and dance are the gifts of humans who remember they are humans and helping a friend in need.
Our goal is to be able to give him back the freedom of transportation-a car or truck to buzz around town again charming the Dairy mart cashiers and making a sweet freaky show of life again even after losing everything over and over again. Let him know sometimes good things happen. That's what we told him. Christmas is tough, but the time is now. Please give whatever you can even if it is tiny and warm up this world-today if you can. We CAN help hands together!
For Love and being real humans. Let's make it happen!
If kisses were snowflakes Arlan, we'd send a blizzard!
Hey, let's send a blizzard of dollar bills while we're at it.
Let it snow!
Arlan has a truck that he loves. Last week A 1997 Nissan pickup was purchased for $3500. It is reliable and in great shape and a lovely shade of Black. He was also able to buy new tires and pay for insurance for the month of January.
Arlan is on the move again. I think he has been posting to as many of you as he can, so I will keep this part short and sweet. Great job human's! Best of Luck to you all for starting off 2017 on a high note.
Below is a tiny video of thanks with Arlan and his truck-and the extended dance mix. Enjoy.
Anne and Arlan
Things have gotten a little complicated here in fundraising land and mutual deliberations are underway to make sure the wishes of friends will be fulfilled completely. We encountered a hitch in that Arlan receives Social Security benefits and after reading some horror stories about SSI recipients losing their benefits after fundraisers I think we have it all sorted out so that that won't happen to Arlan. It turns out though that Arlan doesn't have SSI but SSD and the rules are a bit more lenient.
But even so consulting friends and Arlan himself have agreed that the funds will be held in my name and disbursed in a way that keeps his social security check in tact.
I am required by Gofundme to inform you all that the funds will temporarily be withdrawn in my name. Arlan WILL be able to buy a truck because he receives SSD and not SSI and the remainder will be handed spent on his behalf in legal amounts. We are seeking Legal aid tomorrow to make sure all is on the up and up and both Arlan and I are protected and the law is upheld.
Arlan is looking forward to getting an internet connection and new phone and making a little dance video for you all. Everything is going to be okay and this is because of the joyous celebration of love and generosity which you all brought down with no holds barred. A community success story we can all feel good about and never forget.
As the world seems to go back to the Bronze Age-a little pool of humans raised their faces above the deep waters and fins onto land and were real friends, many to a stranger.
Words really aren't adequate.
Prayers that all of you are also well and safe this winter and that the sun will return in spring as we have come to expect.
A happy New Year to all of you.
(Air horns and silly string here)
LETS GIVE THIS CRAZY WONDERFUL FUNDRAISER ONE MORE DAY!.
WE ALREADY HAVE SUCCESS.
SOME HAVE SUGGESTED THAT WE TAKE IT EVEN HIGHER. WE HAVE UPPED THE GOAL TO $4000 with the intention of paying some back medical debts. There are many more to come. Let me know how this sits. I think I have heard a HELL YES!
RESHARE AND ASK TO BE RESHARED AGAIN OUT INTO INTERSPACE. IT'S WORKING!
THE BALL IS ROLLING for our good friend Arlan (Odegard) (Squirrel man) Schwarzbauer
Yesterday I left my friend Arlan in a situation where the outcomes were just too bad to contemplate. He was at a dead end- really really no way forward. But in one SINGLE day about 50 people in the world- many who don't even known what a soulful person Arlan is, poured out real money which was earned with difficulty and gave it without a second thought. A lot of you know he deserves all of that love and finally a good break.
Our highest hope was to get him a vehicle. Mobility is SO essential for someone who doesn't like to ask for help. All that resourcefulness needs a car to run around in!
He has many bills outstanding and medical procedures to still undergo. If we can keep the ball rolling while Arlan is trending we might be able to tally the 8% fund fee and catch up some bills too. For all that have already given beyond belief THANK YOU one thousand times. You have been unbelievably generous.
While the fires are hot Lets SHARE this fundraiser one more day. Friends have been writing and suggesting we go even further and see if we can make a dent in supporting his medical treatment. There has been so much support in one day I am going to up the amount to $4000. There is one who says this is impolite, but I know from e-mails that many agree to go further in improving Arlan's situation.
Arlan's phone isn't working right now and his internet is down, but slowly-it took all day-there's a smile coming back into those blueberry dots of eyes.
He's just the type to dance a little crookedy jig video as a thank you. ( I bet he will!)
I know he'll never forget a single one of you. What a success story you've all made. It just proves a little creativity combined with a spirit of love all things are easy. I love being able to believe that today!
That blizzard of kisses sure blew through with some serious power.
It's because you have put so much soul and love into the world Arlan! Whoot Whoot-One more time around people!

I visited with the gal Kay who did the grocery shopping for me and took them to Arlan! Anyway she said that she is willing to help look around for a vehicle for him because she personally knows several car dealers and might even be able to get a $ match from one!! I think that's awesome of her!!
