Repair Downtown State College

$1,743 of $18,000 goal

 STATE COLLEGE, PA
On Saturday, October 22, Penn State football defeated Ohio State in one of the greatest games in Penn State's history!

As proud as I am of what the football team accomplished, I am embarassed of what happened next.  Students rallied in the streets and managed to cause $18,000 worth of damage to public property.

What was a very high moment for the university turned into a low one very quickly.  Please join me in donating to help repair State College.  All proceeds will go to the Downtown State College Improvement District.

Any amount is appreciated and I thank you guys so much for helping out, especially if you were not even involved in the craziness of Saturday night!!!

As Penn State now is a nationally ranked team, more and more eyes are looking on our university.  Let's show everyone that while Penn State knows how to have a good time, we're still respectful of the town we live in.

Thank you so much to everyone that donated on day 1. I want to make one thing clear that I didn't before. While I appreciate everyone's donations this was directed at students. I didn't expect a single person to donate who does not go to Penn State. My apologies for not making this clear, I really did not think this page would reach many people.

Before you guys comment I would appreciate if you could read this article http://www.pennlive.com/news/2016/10/penn_state_student_starts_go_f.html#incart_river_home This fundraiser is not me asking other people to bail fellow students out and I by no means meant to portray that the residents of state college are responsible for this. I am just trying to raise money among the students to help our community. Originally I didn't want to do this for the sole reason that people would start thinking students are trying to push off responsibility but that's not it at all I'm trying to have us collectivity take responsibility as students and raise money for a great community!

One student wants to make up for what the collective group of fans did to downtown and you are attacking him! You should be ashamed of yourselves. He had nothing to do with the flooding and neither did any of the fans. Do not condemn him!

Many people don't even know we're to start or were to begin to put there homes back together.PSU has the money were as many people in Milesburg due not. There is a go fund me page set up for flood victims that's were the money needs to go.

People--read the description! This page was set up for Penn Staters who either participated in the rally or who want to help contribute to repairs. We can't go back in time to stop the riotous behavior, so at least let us do what we can to set things right.

Absolute garbage. The behavior of the students, whether in part or in whole is a reflection of the university. Alcohol and Football are no excuse, though they are often seen as a justifiable reason. This is the fourth? Fifth? Time Penn State has did "fund me's" from one asinine student to the next calling their reasoning justified and good. Meanwhile there are plenty of other more deserving funding opportunities out there. Especially locally where an entire city was put into a state chaos not 15 minutes away from the rains and subsequent flooding. While I understand this isn't THE university asking for money, it is a representation of the establishment affiliated or not and what it may "not condone" it does nothing to stop or discourage its populous from destroying its surroundings. This is a joke.

You should be donating to help the families affected by the flooding in milesburg instead of something a bunch of students destroyed, which they should be paying for. This is sad.

We have people in Centre County that flooded and you want donations for people that was acting childish. NO WAY Donations should be for people that are in need like people in the community that lost alot more than this.

Dear Chris: I commend you! In my opinion you have done a great thing here. If people would just remember that you are being a responsible member of our community. Because of your efforts you are spurring on others to do the right thing, too. We need each other to tackle large problems. We cannot do everything but we each need to recognize what we can do. Keep our minds and hearts working in reaching out to others instead of just ourselves. You know the old Indian story about the good and evil inside each of us....well, you are feeding the good and that part will become stronger. Thank you again for spurring us on to be better!

Great idea and it shows character to do this to try to make a difference. Last time I checked the STUDENTS have a section at Beaver Stadium. That leaves roughly 95,000 ADULTS!!!! Im sure students were involved but Im certainly not nieve enough to think it was all them. Intoxicated ADULTS had their fair share in it as well. WE ARE...!!

you say the students should pay for it.... this is how the students are going to pay for it.... this right here. this gofundme is exactly how the students are going to pay for it. why is that hard to understand? it is not a disgrace to have students volunteer to pay for the damages they caused. this is not one student asking the public to help- this is one student asking OTHER STUDENTS to help. it just so happens that this is a public page (because believe it or not, this guy is not friends with every psu student on facebook). why is it disgraceful for a student to make the first step toward atoning for what happened? what is terribly disgraceful is ranking the charitable contributions of someone else. i for one didn't know about the milesburg flooding. say what you want, ask me if i live under a rock, idgaf. but this page is the first i learned of this flooding. psu students are showing support for what is close to them. thats not to say they dont care about milesburg. im sorry you think your town is more deserving of retribution than state college. but what you see here are student residents of state college trying to fix their home. never mind how or why the damage happened- the fact is, it happened. we arent proud of it, so thats why we are doing what we can to fix it. im sorry you are all upset that a neighboring community is coming together to fix itself.

I'm a Michigan fan, so I was thrilled with your beatdown of Ohio Saturday night. I know it has been a rough few years in Happy Valley. You deserved that party. It's an honorable thing to make things right with the neighbors after a crazy bash. Good luck.

You may want to check where your funding is going. I do not believe the Downtown Improvement District is responsible for paying for any repairs for damages downtown. The State College Borough eats the costs for any damages. They are not associated with the Downtown Improvement District.
