Reno Student Film Festival X

In its sixth year, Reno FFX is a high school student film festival in Northern Nevada. We feature 8 categories in both fiction and non-fiction, trophy awards, public screenings of festival finalists, and free filmmaking workshops. The festival averages about 150 entries per year and it is our goal to aid developing journalists and filmmakers by providing a public venue to present their work, competition with their peers, guidance and feedback from professionals, and incentives to pursue their art.

The top 3 in each category are included in the public screening and student finalists receive certificates and trophies. Categories include PSA, Documentary, News Packages, Short Film (any genre), Music Video, Experimental Film, Animation, and Short Film (yearly theme).

We are fortunate to also have the support of JTNN (Join Together Northern Nevada), a Reno based non-profit whose mission is to build successful partnerships to create healthy, drug free communities. JTNN offers $1000 in cash prizes to the top 3 entrants in the PSA category.

Recently, we received the support of KTVN Channel 2, who is sponsoring the KTVN Student News Contest presented by FFX, and is offering a brand new Digital Camera to the winner of this year's Best In Show Award.

With the help of these generous sponsors we are able to offer trophies and a few great incentives beyond that, but we would like to generate enough funds to afford additional incentives to every category.

Specifically, approximately $1000 will allow us to buy prizes for every category, such as on-camera lighting kits, microphone sets, camera-support systems, digital audio recorders, and other filmmaking and electronic news gathering devices to aid students in their journey.

Many of our entrants enter contests in pairs, which complicates the prize-system, but we strive to recognize all students who participate and to help them out as much as we can in their endeavors. We understand that many students do not have access to, or the means to access, necessary equipment for the development of the skills they could take with them as they enter the workforce.

This year's Finalist Screening and Awards Presentation takes place May 19th and our goal is to raise enough money to provide prizes for every category by May 1st and continue fundraising for future years.
